چکیده
This study introduces a model based on Richards’ equation to describe variably-saturated beach groundwater flow. The surface wave propagation is computed by the phase-resolving non-hydrostatic SWASH code. data are used make suitable dynamic boundary condition at face force equation. latter solved weighted discontinuous Galerkin method together with adaptive mesh refinement. validated comparison laboratory experiment of transient water table recharge problem. Then, BARDEX II prototype-scale considered assess abilities for dynamics. barrier studied three cases different lagoon levels. Steady-state results no-wave conditions show excellent agreement. Transient waves simulations evaluated in terms pressure heads, saturations, position and velocities time-averaged, swash-resolving spectral analysis. Results bring interesting insights about modelling experimental as well Darcy’s equation-based model. A first investigation carried out effect bed sediment dynamics through modification relative weight.

Groundwater recharge simulation using a coupled saturated-unsaturated flow model
Abstract The coupled MODFLOW-HYDRUS software package was used to produce a saturated-unsaturated flow model for a Flood Spreading System (FSS) and its associated aquifer. The study aim to improve simulations of near-surface hydrological processes, including temporal and spatial variation in groundwater recharge rates. The coupled model was built with average RMSE=1.1 and 1.3 for calibration ...
متن کاملEfficient Steady-State Solution Techniques for Variably Saturated Groundwater Flow
We consider the simulation of steady-state variably saturated groundwater flow using Richards’ equation (RE). The difficulties associated with solving RE numerically are well known. Most discretization approaches for RE lead to nonlinear systems that are large and difficult to solve. The solution of nonlinear systems for steadystate problems can be particularly challenging, since a good initial...

متن کاملSteady Groundwater Flow To Drains On A Sloping Bed: Comparison of Solutions based on Boussinesq Equation and Richards Equation
The steady groundwater flow of water to drains on a sloping bed is re-examined. Results from a number of solutions for the maximum watertable height (hm) for flow to drains on slopes are presented and compared with published HeleShaw model results and HYDRUS2D numerical model calculations. Numerical modelling shows that when the length of the slope (L) < 50 m the ratio L/hm is affected by L (...
متن کاملAn Object-oriented computational framework for the simulation of variably saturated flow in soils, using a reduced complexity model
A simple and efficient computational modelling framework is presented for the simulation of variably saturated flows in porous media, which is not based on a conventional numerical solution of the Richards’ equation. The computational domain is discretized with a regular grid and simple rules govern the flow dynamics. Each cell can have distinct hydraulic properties and its state depends only o...
